what was REALLY SPECIAL about old postcards (and even old food packaging) is that it was all done with lithographic techniques. IE, drawing 4 or 5 different versions of the image - each version holding a different ink - onto a slab of limestone, then printing on the one sheet of paper with each stone so different gradations of colour occurred. If you're ever lucky enough (or patient) to work with lithography - even if only once- you'll never view these jewels the same way again!
